Weekly Wrap-up #3&4

We didn’t do a weekly wrap-up last Sunday because we were out on an island in the Mamanuca’s going technology free. We’ve had an interesting couple of weeks and learnt alot about the way business work here (or don’t work as the case may be).

The week before Easter work really picked up for J and it hasn’t dropped off at all since getting back. It’s good that he’s so busy and the demand is there, but before we went away he was really starting burnout and get really rundown.

One big breakthrough we did have was J was able to go into the Australian High Commission and submit the documentation for his new passport (after his got stolen in the break-in). We thought this was going to be a lot harder to organise but thankfully 4 weeks after the break-in the documentation is submitted and all going well we should have a new passport by the end of the month.

We also spent that week trying to sort out moving into another house that we inspected and liked the look of. Having only ever dealt with Australian rental properties and never having it go through one of our employers this has been a HUGE learning curve for us. Two weeks later on from starting the process things are vaguely confirmed. As with all things in Fiji I’ve learnt not to believe something is going to happen until there’s a signature on the dotted line. I’ve lost track of how many times it’s swung from a yes to a no and then back again.

We went away for the 4 days J got off over Easter (more on that in another post I’m working on) and on J’s request made the trip tech free so we didn’t spend the whole time on phones. It was just what he needed I think to detach from reality and recharge his batteries.

Since getting back this week he’s been flat out with work and it’s looking like it’ll be like this for a while now (lucky we took the break when we could). He’s worked both days this weekend so I’m not sure when his next day off will be, poor guy.

We did manage to sneak in a trip to the waterfalls this morning with Nero. We had him running beside the car on the dirt track in to the carpark (his top speed was 40km/h!). After a 1.5 hour return hike with lots of swimming and exploring for puppy J headed to work and Nero is having a very quiet afternoon, trying to keep cool.
